is glendon rusch really the cubs #2 starter? this is not good. my cautious optimism has now turned to cautious pessimism. i mean the guy gives up home runs to pitchers who have spent their entire career in the american league. we are already behind the brewers. this is beginning to look a lot like last year.
also, it looks like the firemikedavis.com guy doesn't play favorites.

318-ubuntu

while i wait for my windows cd to arrive i decided to take a shot with linux. i mean what can it hurt? after all, linux distributions are FREE. i found a distribution call ubuntu. it took me a while to download the cd and install it on my computer, but it seems to be very intuitive and easy to use. now, the big challenge is finding drivers for all my hardware.
319-opening day

good news! at work today i got a call from my bank. i panicked at first thinking that someone had ran up my card (not that i have any money anyway), but no!, they called to report that an officer had stopped by with my missing wallet! i totally lucked out. someone had turned in my wallet to the police station the next day...with all the cash still inside. i met the officer after work and i know have my wallet in my possession..phew! thank you, allison barenthin...good to know there are people like you out there.
now, that i had my wallet i could concentrate on the real news of the day...opening day for baseball (which also means opening day for fantasy baseball...woo-hoo!). the cubs pounded the reds, scoring 16 runs, but i believe they did that last year as well on the first day and finished under .500, so i'm not about to get too excited just yet. let's call me cautiously optimistic for now. the one thing that does give me hope is that the rookies murton and cedeno make contact. when you can at least put the ball in play, good things will happen.
320-wallet bandits

so after the bulls game, leslie and i met up with some of her friends. we went all over the city...from the west side to viagra triangle to lincoln park to downtown. we had a good time, but people's fingers were awfully sticky that night. first, her friend michelle got her wallet taken from the women's restroom. then, later that night i hung my jacket on a chair. i soon realized i had left my wallet in my jacket and i went back to get it. someone had realized it was there before me and it was gone. i thought maybe it had just fallen out, but when i noticed that my free big mac was also gone, i knew it was the work of professionals...or was it?
321-big mac attack

i started today by driving to indiana to help my dad install a new garage door. that thing was freaking heavy! but, it was worth it! two days in a row feeling handy. impressive. i'm just glad my dad and my dog, chance, were able to survive... i about dropped the garage door on both of them! the only one smart enough to stay out of the way was the family dog cinnamon and that was b/c she just had surgery to remove cancer from her leg. poor baby, i hope she gets well soon.
it was good i worked up an appetite, b/c i went to the bulls game with my sister and the ellis's. ellis get these tickets from a client and they are great b/c they are club level and they bring your food to you lickety-split. that means no waiting for beer and nachos. and, of course the most important thing of all at bulls games is the chance for a free big mac. if the bulls score 100 and win you get a free big mac. well, it didn't look good, but the bulls took the lead at the right time and the celtics were forced to foul. i proclaimed andres nocioni as my favorite bull earlier in the night and he came to the line with 2 seconds left and and bulls with 98 points. sure enough, my main man sunk both the free throws and the big mac was ours....or was it?
322-the cat is away
so, i get to play, right? wrong. missy went to florida and to celebrate my big night of freedom i...built a computer. man, i must be getting old when hobbies trump going out. anyway, i finally got a power adapter to change my power supply from a 20 to a 24-pin, so i went to work. it actually looks pretty good. i will get a picture up soon. of course, i hit one more snag....the operating system. i downloaded a cd from work for windows xp, but it turned out to be the office suite and not the OS. damn.
323- ballin'

finally, i get to get back to the gym (the basketball gym, that is). it's been a about a month since i made it to holstein for some hoops with the locals. it was a rough time back, being that i almost hit some guy in the back of the head with a three point shot and that i allowed jones to score like ten 3s on me. luckily, after i got warmed up a little bit, i still wasn't the best player, but i did turn out to be somewhat of a lucky charm as i was able to stay on the court for all but one game. not bad...now if i could just shut down that jeff jones kid (left).
