the cubs held a "garage sale" today. what they really should have called it was "remember sammy?" day. i don't know if they had more sammy t-shirts or more bricks to sell.
i really wasn't expecting to buy anything since i figured they'd want a fortune for the bricks and bleachers aka clay and wood. but i wanted to check it out anyway. when i got there at 9, there was a line halfway around the stadium. so i figured "forget the bricks"and went inside. they had some used game jersey and flags flown from the scoreboard. pretty cool, but what am i going to do with a rockies pennant flag? or a will ohman jersey for $200 (hell, i rather pay him $200 for one scoreless inning!)?
however, the bleachers were open, so i went to check them out. i'm usually skeptical when you mess with a good thing, but the bleachers were amazing! you can actually walk around now under the bleachers. you can yell at the right fielder from the "knothole". you couldn't get into the centerfield restaurant, but there is a standing room only section above it that has a great view. even the overhang of the bleachers looked good. i looked more like a shelter than anything else. plus, they paved the sidewalks with bricks which looks quite classy. overall, it looks like a new stadium...but still wrigley.
after the tour of the bleachers, the line had really shortened. so, i decided to give the line a try. i ended up getting two bricks and one bleacher. i still have decided if this is the best $100 (bricks & bleachers) i've ever spent, or the worst (wood & clay). i don't know, what do you think?
post script: i also noticed they let dogs into the park, so i went home and grabbed missy and chance. what a great photo op to get inside wrigley with your dog. but by the time we got back they quit letting dogs in (the food service guys complained). this is as close as we got.
